Located in Champaign County, Ohio, Urbana serves as the county seat. As of 2010, approximately 11,800 people called Urbana home, and the community is situated about 47 miles west of Columbus. This community was laid out in 1812 and was named for a Virginia town also called Urbana. The economy of Urbana is supported by a variety of industries, including Honeywell Aerospace, Control Industries, Rittal, and Freshwater Farms, and Urbana University is also found within the city limits.

There are several interesting things to see and do in Urbana. The Champaign Aviation Museum is a great place to learn about the history of U.S. planes and other aircraft, and visitors often enjoy a trip to the Freshwater Farms of Ohio. The Champaign County Historical Society is a great destination for history buffs looking to learn more about the community, as is the Johnny Appleseed Museum. Outdoor recreation is also popular in the community, with the Cedar Bog Nature Preserve providing ample things to see and do outside.

Urbana is part of a humid continental climate zone, and summers are hot and muggy. Average high temperatures in July reach the mid-80s, but the highest temperature ever recovered was 106 degrees Fahrenheit. With high humidity levels, conditions will feel even warmer than the thermostat indicates, so it is important to invest in proper climate control systems to be prepared. An energy-efficient air conditioning system will keep residents safe when warm fronts move into the area.

Winters in Urbana tend to see relatively light snowfall since the region isn’t in the typical pathway of strong cold fronts. Temperatures usually reach the mid-30s for highs in January, but average lows will fall into the low-20s. Without a reliable heat pump or furnace in place, indoor temperatures could be dangerously cold and pipes and plumbing may be at risk of freezing.
